Experiments by the Month:

January- Rocks with Special Properties Did you know that some rocks are magnetic?  Have you ever seen a rock glow or produce light?  You'll receive 5 unique rock samples that each do something awesome along with information about minerals, a recipe to grow rocks you can eat and more!

February-Dinosaur Dig Kit If you like dinosaurs you'll love this project!  Be a paleontologist and dig up some "dino" bones.  When you are done digging glue them together to make your own mini dinosaur replica.  You get the dinosaur dig kit along with information about how dinosaurs lived, what they ate, and what it would be like to be a paleontologist.

March- Owl Pellet Learn about food webs in this exciting "treasure hunt".  You'll discover what owls eat by digging through an owl pellet to find bones including skulls of their prey.  You'll learn how organisms depend on each other in an ecosystem.  You get an owl pellet along with all of the tools needed to extract the bones, along with a bone id guide and much more information!

April-Geodes/Mineral Dig Kit If you like collecting rocks and minerals then this month's experiment is for you!  Not only will you get to search through soil to find samples of different minerals you'll also get to crack open a geode to see the crystals inside.  You'll get a mineral dig kit in which you will find samples of common minerals.  The mineral dig includes a guide to help you id the minerals you find as well as information about how they form and their properties.  You'll also receive a geode that will need to be put into an old sock or bag to be split with a hammer (safety goggles and adult supervision are a must!).

May-Marshmallow Launcher Learn all about air and air pressure with this month's experiment, a marshmallow launcher!  You will receive material to make a contraption that will launch marshmallows at least 8 feet.  You can put your materials together in the recommended way or experiment and design your own unique marshmallow launcher!  You also get stickers to decorate your creation along with some neat experiments you can try to learn more about air.

June-Sensitive Plant Plants can't move on their own right?  This one can!  This plant moves on its own when you touch it.  Leave it alone and it goes back to the way it was.  You'll receive about 5 seeds along with directions on how to plant them.  You are guaranteed to grow at least one plant or I will send you more seeds.  Learn how this amazing plant works!  If you like different kinds of plants you love learning about what it is like to be a botanist!

July-Film Canister Rocket This month's experiment is everyone's favorite.  Because it blows up!  (Adult supervision for kids under 12 recommended) You'll receive a film canister and several seltzer tablets.  Work through the scientific method as you set off your high-flying film canister rocket over and over again.  This kit includes information about chemical and physical reactions along with directions for other exciting demonstrations and experiments that can be done at home.

August-Space Sand  Sand gets wet when you put it in water right? Not this sand!  Immerse it in water and pull it back out, it's still dry!  You'll receive a container of this amazing sand along with information about how it's made, how it is used in everyday life and directions for easy and exciting experiments to do to learn more about solutions, suspensions and colloids.

September
-Volcano  What's a set of science kits without the vinegar and baking soda volcano?  You will receive a container that will be the bones of the volcano, clay to use to design and create your volcano along with lots of information about the different types of volcanoes and what makes them erupt.  Learn what it would be like to be a volcanologist.  (This kit does not include the baking soda or vinegar)

October-Fossil Dig  In this project you will get to do the work of a paleontologist!  Dig out real fossils such as shark teeth, shells, crinoid stems, maybe even some dino poop and more!  Learn how these fossils form and a little about the time periods that the organisms lived in.

November-Grow Bacteria (Adult supervision recommended) In this experiment you will receive a petri dish, a sterile swab, nutrient agar and  simple directions to follow to grow your own bacteria.  Learn about the different types of bacteria, how and why they grow.  Learn what it might be like to a microbiologist and check out some of the fun games on the website links!

December-Super Snow In December you think of snow.  At Sneakin' in Science we're no different except we don't just like to think about it, we like to make it! You can too. In this kit you will receive some mysterious white powder that when water is added to it, it fluffs up and looks like real snow!  It even feels cool like real snow.  Add more water to make snowballs and snowmen!  Learn not only about snow, but the process of osmosis as you amaze your friends with your own homemade snow.
